No crank, no cord: fresh grounds from one button, wherever you park.

Battery grinders get one complaint more than any other: it worked for a month, then it wouldn't hold a charge. So start there. If the Drifter ever stops holding a charge because of a defect, email your order number and a photo to help@bealphes.com and it's replaced or refunded at no cost.

Now the part that happens every other morning. The bloke at the next site is on his tailgate with a hand grinder clamped between his knees, cranking, the camp table rocking with every turn. You tipped beans into the Drifter, pressed one button and went to light the stove. Nobody is touching the grinder on the tray.

Three moves, then it's on its own

• Turn the numbered ring to your setting. The numbers sit on the outside, so tomorrow you land on the same click as today.
• Press the button and go and fill the billy.
• Unscrew the clear jar and tip it straight into the plunger, the AeroPress or the moka pot. No funnel, no scoop, nothing blowing off the table.

Inside is a conical burr, so the beans come out cut to an even size instead of smashed into dust and chunks by a blade. They're ground at the campsite, so the smell hits when the jar comes off, not when you opened the bag at home last week.

No crank. No power point. No cord across the campsite. About 20cm tall and 7cm across, it stands in the same tub as the mugs.

Take the Black. Coffee dust and red dirt vanish into the black and chrome. On the white with gold, you'll see every speck.
